What you need
Steps
Open your browser and go to the free online PDF editor, such as PDFgear. You do not need to sign up or install anything.
Click the upload or open button and choose the PDF you want to turn into a form. Wait for it to load in the editor.
Find the Form or Form Field tool in the toolbar. This adds interactive fields on top of the page.
Pick the Text Field tool and drag a box where the person should type, such as next to Name or Address.
Add a Checkbox field for yes or no choices, and a Date field for date entries. Drag each one into place.
Click a field to open its settings. Set the field name, font size and whether it is required.
Repeat for every blank line on the form until all the spaces have a matching field.
Click Save or Download and choose PDF. Open the saved file and click a field to check that you can type in it.
Tips and common mistakes
Name each field clearly, like first_name, so form data is easy to collect later.
Keep field boxes slightly larger than the printed lines so text does not look cramped.
Test the finished form in a different PDF reader, since some viewers handle fields differently.
Do not use a scanned image with no text layer if you need the original labels to stay sharp.
Questions
Can I do this in Word instead?
Word can export a document with form controls as a PDF, but the layout often shifts. A dedicated PDF editor keeps the original design intact.
Will the fields work for everyone who opens the file?
Yes, standard PDF readers like Adobe Acrobat Reader and most browsers let people type in the fields. Test in one other reader before sharing.
Is the free tool really free?
Many online PDF editors offer free form creation with limits on file size or daily use. Check the limits before uploading a large form.
