What you need

Steps

  1. Open forms.google.com and sign in with your Google account. Click the Blank form icon, or pick the Blank quiz template from the template gallery.

  2. Click Untitled form and type a clear title and a short description. Mention the number of questions and how long people have to finish.

  3. Click the Add question button on the floating toolbar and type your first question. Choose Multiple choice, Checkboxes or Short answer from the dropdown on the right.

  4. For a true or false question, add a Multiple choice question, type the statement, and set the two options to True and False.

  5. Use Checkboxes when more than one answer can be correct, and Short answer when people must type the reply. Turn on Required so no question is skipped.

  6. Open the Settings tab and click Quizzes. Switch Make this a quiz on to turn the form into a graded quiz.

  7. Go back to the Questions tab, click Answer key under each question, mark the correct answer and set the points. Add feedback for correct and wrong answers if you want.

  8. In Settings, choose what respondents see after submitting, such as immediate results with missed questions, or later scores after you review.

  9. Click Send and choose the link icon or the email option. Copy the link and share it in your class group or learning platform.

  10. Open the Responses tab to see the answers. Use Summary for charts and Individual to check one person's score and answers.

Tips and common mistakes

Click the eye icon to preview the quiz as a student before you share the link.

Keep each question short and put longer quizzes into sections so the form does not look crowded.

Set points on every question, otherwise the total score at the end will not add up.

You can still edit questions after sharing, but change the answer key only if you plan to regrade.

Questions

Do people need a Google account to take the quiz?

Only if you collect email addresses in Settings. Otherwise anyone with the link can fill it in, though they cannot see their score unless you allow it.

Can I hide the scores until everyone has finished?

Yes. In Settings under Quizzes, set release grades to Later, after manual review, then release them when you are ready.

Can I add a time limit to the quiz?

Google Forms has no built-in timer. You can note a deadline in the description, or use an add-on that closes the form automatically.
