Steps
Log in to Canva and open the Brand tab in the left sidebar to reach Brand Kits. If you cannot see it, ask your account admin to switch on brand kit access for you.
Click Add new brand kit and name it after the client, for example Client Name Brand Kit. Keep one kit per client so nothing gets mixed up.
Upload the client's logos with the Upload button. Add every version you have: primary logo, secondary logo, icon and a white version for dark backgrounds.
Add each brand colour by typing its hex code, then rename it something clear like Primary Green or Sand Neutral. Skip the eyedropper guesswork.
Add the brand fonts under the Text style section, one for headings and one for body copy. Upload licensed font files if your plan allows it.
Build the graphics the client will need most, such as a social post or a one page flyer, using only the kit's colours, fonts and logos.
Turn those designs into brand templates and lock the logo, background and fixed text. The client then edits only the fields you leave open.
Open the brand controls and restrict the palette, font list and uploads to the approved set. This stops random colours and fonts creeping in over time.
Share the kit and templates with the client, either as a team member or through a shared folder, and walk them through one edit so they know the flow.
Tips and common mistakes
Ask for vector logo files before you start, because a stretched PNG will look soft on large formats.
Keep the kit tight with two fonts and four or five colours so the client is not tempted to improvise.
Make one test graphic as if you were the client to check the brand controls actually block the wrong options.
Questions
Do I need Canva Enterprise to set up a brand kit?
Brand Kits come with Canva Pro and above. Brand Templates and the stricter brand controls are Enterprise features, so check your plan before promising them to a client.
Can clients edit the templates without breaking the brand?
Yes. Locked elements and brand controls limit which colours, fonts and images they can use, so the layout stays intact while they swap the text and photos.
Can I upload the client's own fonts?
On Pro and above you can upload font files to the brand kit. The client needs the same font access on their account for the fonts to appear in their editor.
