Steps
Close any screen recorder, screenshot tool or screen-sharing app that is still running. The yellow border often comes from one of these apps.
Right-click the taskbar and choose Task Manager, or press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open it.
Find Windows Explorer in the Processes list, right-click it and choose Restart. The taskbar will blink and come back.
If Explorer does not restart, click Run new task in Task Manager, type explorer.exe and press Enter.
Open Settings, go to Privacy & security and look for screenshot or screen capture border options. Turn off any setting that shows a border around captures.
Check Settings under Accessibility for any visual effect or highlight option that draws a border, and switch it off.
Look at your screen again. If the border is gone, reopen your recorder or sharing app and test it once more.
Tips and common mistakes
Restarting Windows Explorer is the quickest fix and does not close your other apps.
If the border returns every time you record, turn off the border option inside the recorder's own settings.
On laptops with an external monitor, check both screens after each fix.
Update your screen recorder to the latest version if the border keeps coming back.
Questions
Why is there a yellow border around my screen?
It is usually drawn by a screen recorder, screenshot tool or screen-sharing app to show what is being captured. Closing or restarting that app removes it.
Will restarting Windows Explorer close my open programs?
No. It only restarts the taskbar and desktop, so your open apps and files stay as they are.
The border is still there after all three methods. What now?
Restart your PC, then check for updates to your graphics driver and any screen capture software you use.
