Decide the book size and page count before you design. A square 8 x 8 inch book with 20 pages is easy to print and bind at home.
Log in to Canva and type photobook in the search bar. Pick a free template, or use the free template link the creator shares in the video comments.
For a custom book, choose Create a design, then Custom size, and enter your page size in inches. Add pages with the Add page button.
Open the Uploads tab and upload your photos. Drag each photo straight into a frame on the page and it will crop to fit.
Double-click a photo inside its frame to slide and zoom it until the faces and main subject sit where you want them.
Add short captions with the Text tab. Pick one heading font and one body font, then reuse them on every page so the book looks consistent.
Keep a margin of about 1.5 cm on the inner edge of each page so nothing important disappears into the binding.
Go to Share, then Download. Choose PDF Print for a print shop, or PNG for printing at home, and save the file.
Print on matte cardstock or photo paper, trim the pages to size, then punch two or three holes down the left edge.
Line up the pages, thread binder rings or ribbon through the holes and tie them off. Your photobook is finished.
Tips and common mistakes
Use photos straight from your camera roll, not screenshots from social media, or they will look blurry in print.
Print one test page before running the whole book so you can check colours and margins.
When trimming pages with a craft knife, always cut on a cutting mat and away from your body.
Repeat two or three layout styles across the book instead of designing every page from scratch.
