  1. Open Settings, tap your Apple ID name at the top, then tap iCloud. Tap Photos and turn on the Shared Albums switch so the feature is available.

  2. Open the Photos app and tap the Collections tab at the bottom of the screen. Tap Albums to see the list of albums on your device.

  3. Make sure the Shared tab is selected, then tap the plus sign at the top of the screen. The New Shared Album window opens.

  4. Type a name for your album. Tap Add Participants and enter each person's email address or phone number, then tap the blue checkmark.

  5. Tap Create to make the album. It now appears under the Shared tab in your Albums list.

  6. Tap your new shared album to open it, then tap the plus sign inside the album. Select the photos and videos you want and tap the blue checkmark.

  7. Add a comment if you like, then tap Post. Everyone you invited can now see the photos and add their own.

  8. To change who has access, open the album, tap the ellipses at the top and tap the album name. Tap Add Participants to invite more people, or tap a name and choose Remove Subscriber.

Tips and common mistakes

If you cannot see the Shared tab, Shared Albums is probably off in Settings under iCloud, Photos.

Removing a subscriber deletes the album from their device, so check the name before you confirm.

Invited people must accept the album before they can view or add photos.

Turn on iCloud Photos first if you want the album to stay in sync across your own devices.

Questions

Do the people I invite need an iPhone?

No. Anyone with an iCloud account can join, and they can also view and add photos from a web browser on a computer or Android phone.

Does a shared album use my iCloud storage?

Shared albums do not count against your iCloud storage, but the photos are stored at a slightly reduced size rather than full resolution.

Can I delete a photo from a shared album after posting?

Yes. Open the album, tap the photo, tap the ellipses or trash icon and choose Delete Photo to remove it for everyone.
