How to create a color palette in Canva Brand Kit

You will set up a reusable set of brand colors in Canva's Brand Kit so every new design starts with the right shades. It suits anyone making repeat graphics for a shop, channel or print-on-demand store. You need a Canva Pro, Teams or trial account, plus your hex codes or a logo image to sample from.

What you need

Steps

  1. Open Canva and click Brand in the left sidebar of the home page. If you cannot see it, open any design and choose Brand from the editor sidebar instead.

  2. Go to the Colors section and click the plus button to add your first color. A picker opens with a hex field, a color wheel and a slider.

  3. Type the hex code of your main brand color, such as #1F3A5F, then click Add. The swatch is saved to your kit straight away.

  4. Repeat for every color you need. Aim for one primary, one secondary, one accent and two neutrals so you cover most layouts.

  5. No hex codes yet? Upload your logo or a photo into the picker and use the eyedropper to sample the exact shades from the image.

  6. Open any design, click a shape or text color swatch and switch to the Brand tab. Your saved colors now show there for one-click use.

Tips and common mistakes

Keep the palette to five or six colors. More than that and your designs start to look messy.

Check text contrast before you commit. Dark text on a light neutral is the safest pairing.

Brand Kit is a paid feature. A free account can still save the palette in one design and copy it each time.

Write your hex codes down somewhere safe so you can reuse them in other tools and apps.

Questions

Do I need Canva Pro to use the Brand Kit?

Yes. Brand Kit comes with Canva Pro, Canva Teams and the free trial. Free accounts can still save colors inside a design and duplicate that design.

Where do my brand colors appear in the editor?

Click any color swatch in a design and open the Brand tab in the color panel. Every saved color is listed there.

Can I change or remove a color later?

Yes. Go back to Brand, click the swatch and use the edit or delete option, then add the new hex code.
