Steps
Open Google Chrome on your computer and click the three-dot menu in the top right corner.
Hover over More tools and click Clear browsing data. A settings tab opens with the clearing options.
Pick a time range from the drop-down at the top. Choose All time to wipe everything, or Last hour or Last 24 hours for a quick clean.
Tick Cached images and files. Leave the other boxes unticked unless you also want to remove history, cookies or downloads.
Click Clear data and wait for Chrome to finish. The button greys out briefly while it works.
On iPhone or Android, open the Chrome app and tap the three-dot menu. On iPhone it sits at the bottom right.
Tap Clear browsing data, then choose the time range you want.
Tick Cached images and files and tap Clear browsing data again to confirm.
Tips and common mistakes
Clearing cookies will sign you out of most websites, so untick that box if you want to stay logged in.
Clearing the cache does not delete your bookmarks or saved passwords.
If a page still looks wrong after clearing, close the tab and reload it.
On iPhone the menu moved to the bottom of the screen in recent Chrome versions, so look there first.
Questions
Will clearing the cache delete my saved passwords?
No. Passwords and bookmarks stay put. Only the temporary files you tick are removed, plus cookies and history if you select them.
How often should I clear the Chrome cache?
Only when pages load slowly or look broken. Chrome manages the cache on its own, so regular clearing is not needed.
Does clearing the cache log me out of websites?
Not if you leave cookies unticked. Ticking cookies and site data signs you out of most sites until you log in again.
