What you need
Steps
Open Opera and load the first page you want in the split. Open a second tab with the other page you plan to compare.
Click the split screen icon at the right end of the tab bar. It looks like two rectangles side by side. A second empty pane opens next to your page.
Drag a tab from the tab strip into the empty pane. You can also right-click a tab and pick the split screen option from the menu.
Repeat with more tabs to fill the split. Opera supports up to four web pages in a single split screen window.
Pick a layout from the split screen toolbar. Choose vertical for side by side, horizontal for one above the other, or grid for four pages.
Hover over the divider between two panes until the cursor changes, then drag it to resize them.
Click the split screen icon again or choose the exit option when you are done. The pages return to normal tabs.
Tips and common mistakes
Open all the pages you need before you start, so you are not hunting for tabs mid-setup.
The grid layout only makes sense with four pages. With two, side by side is easier to read.
Very narrow panes break some site layouts, so drag the divider before you assume a page is broken.
Split screen keeps working when you open a new tab, so close the split when you want a full width page back.
Questions
How many websites can I show at once in Opera split screen?
Up to four. Opera switches to a grid arrangement when you add more than two pages to the split.
Does split screen work on Opera for Mac or Linux?
This guide covers Windows 11 and Windows 10. Check the tab bar on your version for the same split screen icon before assuming it is missing.
Can I save a split screen setup for later?
No, the split is a temporary view. You can reopen the same pages from your history or bookmarks and split them again.
