Steps
Charge the ThinkNode M3 with the magnetic cable until the RGB status LED shows it is charged. The battery is 770mAh, so a full charge takes a while.
Install the Meshtastic app on your phone from the App Store or Google Play, then open it and allow Bluetooth access when asked.
Hold the power button on the card to switch it on. The RGB LED lights up and the node starts broadcasting over Bluetooth.
In the Meshtastic app, open the device list and tap the ThinkNode M3 when it appears. Accept the pairing request to connect over Bluetooth 5.0.
Set your region in the app to match your LoRa band, EU868 or US915. The wrong region stops the node talking to other Meshtastic devices.
Choose a working mode: standby, normal or trigger. Normal is the everyday setting for tracking and messaging.
Set the reporting interval and turn on battery level reporting. Shorter intervals give fresher positions but drain the battery faster.
Set sensor thresholds for temperature, humidity and the accelerometer so the node raises an alarm when a limit is crossed.
Test the one-click SOS and one-click search buttons, and confirm your position shows on the app map. Check range outdoors in open terrain.
For vehicle or asset use, screw the card to the fixed base, stick the base in place and leave offline caching on so data uploads when a connection returns.
Tips and common mistakes
Keep the card high and clear of your body for the best LoRa range, since the rated 5 to 6 km depends on terrain and antenna height.
The card has no Wi-Fi data connection, only Wi-Fi scan, so do not expect it to work as a Wi-Fi hotspot.
The IP66 rating covers rain splashes but not submersion, so keep it out of rivers and puddles.
Check the SOS button is not pressed by accident in a pocket, as it sends a distress signal to the mesh.
Questions
Do I need a phone signal to use the ThinkNode M3?
No. It talks to your phone over Bluetooth and sends messages and positions over LoRa to other Meshtastic nodes, so it works without cell coverage.
How long does the battery last?
Elecrow rates it at up to 18 hours when sending one message per minute. Longer reporting intervals and standby mode stretch that further.
Can I mount it on a car or bike?
Yes. The box includes a fixed base with sticker and screws, and the magnetic charging port means you do not have to unbolt it to charge.
