What you need
Steps
Open Gmail and click Compose in the top left. Fill in the recipient, subject and message as you normally would.
Check the email once more before scheduling. Once it sends, you cannot pull it back.
Click the small arrow next to the blue Send button. A menu opens with the Schedule send option.
Choose Schedule send. Gmail shows suggested times such as tomorrow morning or Monday afternoon.
To pick your own moment, click Pick date and time. Choose the date from the calendar, then set the hour and minute.
Confirm with Schedule send. Gmail closes the compose window and shows a confirmation that the email is scheduled.
To check or change it, open the Scheduled folder in the left sidebar. Click the email to edit it or click Cancel send to remove it.
On the Gmail app, tap the three dots in the top right of the compose screen, tap Schedule send, then pick a time or tap Pick date and time.
Tips and common mistakes
Scheduled emails send in the time zone set on your Google account, so check it if you are travelling.
You can edit a scheduled email any time before it sends by opening it from the Scheduled folder.
If you cancel a scheduled email, it moves back to Drafts, so you can still send it manually later.
Schedule send needs an internet connection when you set it, but your computer can be off when the email actually goes out.
Questions
Can I schedule an email for more than a year ahead?
Gmail lets you pick any future date and time in the date picker, so long as it is later than the current moment. Very distant dates are allowed but easy to forget, so note them down.
Does the recipient see that the email was scheduled?
No. The email arrives like any normal message, with no label or note saying it was scheduled.
Where do scheduled emails go if I delete the draft?
Deleting a scheduled email cancels it and removes it from the Scheduled folder. If you only want to change the text, open it from Scheduled and edit instead of deleting.
