What you need

Steps

  1. Park on level ground, set the parking brake and chock the rear wheels. Loosen the front wheel lug nuts slightly before lifting the car.

  2. Raise the front corner with a floor jack and set it on a jack stand at the factory lift point. Remove the wheel.

  3. Use a trim tool to release the plastic fender liner fasteners. Pull the liner back and tie it out of the way with a bungee cord.

  4. Mark the position of any bolts you remove with a marker so they go back in the same holes.

  5. Disconnect the washer pump connector and pull the fluid hose off the pump. Have a rag ready for the fluid that drains out.

  6. Remove the 10mm bolts holding the reservoir and free it from its bracket. Lift the old reservoir out through the wheel well.

  7. Set the new reservoir in place and refit the mounting bolts. Reconnect the pump connector and push the hose firmly onto the pump.

  8. Refit the fender liner and its fasteners. Reinstall the wheel and snug the lug nuts.

  9. Lower the car and torque the lug nuts with a torque wrench to the spec for your CR-V.

  10. Fill the reservoir with washer fluid and run the washer to check for leaks at the pump and hose.

Tips and common mistakes

Never work under a car held only by a jack. Always use jack stands on level ground.

Check the pump seal and hose connection first if the old reservoir seemed to leak.

Keep washer fluid off paint and rinse any spills with water.

Torque the lug nuts to the Honda spec for your model year rather than guessing.

Questions

Do I need to drain the washer fluid first?

You can, but most of it will drain when you pull the hose off the pump. Keep a drain pan and rag under the reservoir.

Can I reach the reservoir without removing the wheel?

On this CR-V the fender liner blocks access. Removing the front wheel makes the job much easier and safer.

Does this fit all 2012-2016 CR-V trims?

The process is similar across those years, but check the part number for your trim and engine before buying.
