What you need
Steps
Park the car and turn it off. Move the passenger seat all the way back so you have room to work in the footwell.
Pull back the passenger footwell carpet or trim panel to expose the filter housing cover.
Use the Torx bit to remove the screws holding the filter housing cover in place. Keep the screws in a cup so they do not get lost.
Lift off the cover and slide the old cabin air filter out of the housing. Note which way the airflow arrow points.
Slide the new filter in with the airflow arrow pointing the same direction as the old one.
Refit the housing cover and tighten the Torx screws until snug. Do not overtighten them.
Push the carpet or trim panel back into place and check that nothing is loose.
Turn the car on and run the climate fan on high to check for airflow and any rattles.
Tips and common mistakes
Match the airflow arrow on the new filter to the old one or the air will flow the wrong way.
Do not overtighten the Torx screws, since the plastic housing can crack.
Replace the filter about once a year, or sooner if the cabin smells musty.
Questions
Do I need special tools?
You need a Torx bit set to remove the housing screws. A plastic trim tool helps with the carpet but is optional.
How often should I change the cabin filter?
Most owners change it about once a year. Change it sooner if airflow drops or the cabin smells stale.
Will this void my warranty?
Replacing a wear item like the cabin filter is normal maintenance. Keep your receipt for the filter in case you need it.
