What you need
Steps
Park on a flat surface and turn the engine off. Lower the window a few inches so you can reach the inner handle area.
Pry off the small screw cover behind the inner door handle and remove the screw underneath. Pop off the switch panel and unplug its connectors.
Remove the screws along the bottom and sides of the door panel. Then pull the panel edges away from the door frame with a trim tool.
Lift the panel up and off the door. Peel back the plastic water shield carefully so you can reach the handle bolts.
Find the two 10mm bolts holding the outer handle. Hold the handle from outside and unscrew both bolts.
Pull the handle out and disconnect the rod from the back of it. Note how the rod sits in its clip so you can refit it the same way.
Connect the rod to the new handle, slide the handle into the door and start both 10mm bolts by hand. Tighten them snugly.
Test the handle from outside before closing the door. It should open the latch smoothly with no slack.
Refit the water shield, plug in the switch panel and hang the door panel back on its clips. Replace all screws and the inner handle screw.
Tips and common mistakes
Tape the door panel edges with masking tape before prying to avoid scratches.
Do not overtighten the 10mm handle bolts or you can crack the plastic handle housing.
Keep the window up while the panel is off so the glass does not drop unexpectedly.
Questions
Do I need to remove the whole door panel?
Yes. The outer handle bolts are only reachable from inside the door, so the trim panel has to come off first.
Why does my new handle feel loose?
The rod clip is probably not seated fully. Push the rod into the clip until it clicks and check the bolts are snug.
Will this fit other Camry years?
The 2007 to 2011 Camry uses the same door design. Check the part number for your exact year and trim before buying.
