What you need
Steps
Open your design in Canva. Find the Page View setting in its new spot in the editor so you can see your pages and keep the pattern project tidy.
Open the Apps tab in the Canva editor, search for Tiled Pattern and open the app. It repeats your image for you so you never line up tiles by hand.
Upload your single image into the pattern app. A square image with a transparent or plain background gives the cleanest repeat.
Adjust the pattern layout with the size, horizontal position and vertical position controls. Nudge the values until the tiles sit evenly with no obvious seams.
Add the finished pattern to your design. The app places it on your page as an image you can move and resize.
Crop and position the pattern so it fills the page edge to edge. Drag the corners to resize it and move it until the repeat looks balanced.
Lower the transparency of the pattern or of the elements you place on top, so text and graphics stay readable over the busy background.
Add your text with the Text tool, then change the font, size and colour to match the mood of the pattern.
Tips and common mistakes
Use a square source image, since uneven shapes are harder to tile evenly.
Zoom to 100 percent and check the joins between tiles before you export.
Keep a plain or semi transparent shape behind your text so it reads clearly over the pattern.
Test the pattern on one page first, then apply it to the rest of the design.
Questions
Do I need a paid Canva plan for this?
The Tiled Pattern app works inside Canva, but some apps have free limits or a paid tier. Check the app listing before you build a whole project around it.
Can I use the pattern on products I sell?
Check the licence on the app you use and on the original image. Canva's own content rules and the app's terms decide what you can sell.
Why does my pattern show visible lines between tiles?
Usually the source image has a solid background or the spacing is uneven. Try a transparent PNG and adjust the position and size settings until the edges meet cleanly.
