What you need
Steps
Draw a light horizontal line across the middle of the page. This is your horizon line, and it sets the eye level of the room.
Mark two vanishing points on the horizon line, one near the left edge and one near the right edge. Keep them far apart for a wider room.
Draw the nearest vertical corner of the room in the middle of the page, from floor to ceiling height.
From the top and bottom of that corner, draw light lines to the left vanishing point. These become the ceiling and floor edges.
From the same corner, draw lines to the right vanishing point for the other wall, ceiling and floor edges.
Add the far back corners where the wall lines meet the vanishing point lines, then draw the back wall edges straight up and down.
Sketch a window or door on one wall by drawing its edges along the vanishing point lines so it sits flat on that wall.
Add simple furniture like a table or bed, keeping every horizontal edge aimed at one of the two vanishing points.
Shade the walls, floor and objects with the 4B pencil, pressing harder in corners and under furniture for depth.
Erase the construction lines and darken the final outlines so the room reads clearly.
Tips and common mistakes
Keep your construction lines light so you can erase them cleanly at the end.
Place the vanishing points far apart or the room will look stretched and distorted.
All vertical lines stay vertical in two-point perspective, so use the ruler for them.
Shade in one direction and build up layers slowly to avoid a smudged look.
Questions
What is the difference between one-point and two-point perspective?
One-point perspective uses a single vanishing point and shows a wall straight ahead. Two-point perspective uses two vanishing points and shows a corner of the room, which looks more dynamic.
Where should I put the horizon line?
Put it near the middle of the page for a normal eye-level view. Move it lower to look up at the ceiling or higher to look down at the floor.
Do I need a ruler?
A ruler helps keep the vanishing point lines straight, but you can draw them freehand if you keep your pencil light.
