What you need
Steps
Draw a horizontal horizon line across the middle of your paper. Mark two points near the left and right edges. These are your vanishing points.
Draw a short vertical line between the two vanishing points to mark the nearest corner of the house. This is the front edge.
From the top and bottom of that vertical line, draw light lines to the left vanishing point. Do the same to the right vanishing point.
Mark where you want the back corners on each side. Draw vertical lines there to set the left and right walls.
Connect the top of each back corner to the opposite vanishing point to close the wall tops. Erase the lines that run past the corners.
Find the middle of the front wall and draw a vertical line up for the roof peak. Draw roof lines from the peak to each side vanishing point.
Add a door and windows on the front and side walls. Keep their vertical edges straight up and their top and bottom edges aimed at the vanishing points.
Go over the final outlines with a darker pencil and erase the construction lines. Add shading on one side to show depth.
Tips and common mistakes
Keep your pencil lines light at first so you can erase mistakes without smudges.
Keep the horizon line level and the vertical lines truly vertical, or the house will look tilted.
Place the vanishing points far apart to avoid a stretched, distorted look.
Questions
Do I need special paper or tools?
No. Plain paper, a pencil and a ruler are enough. A harder pencil like HB keeps the lines clean.
Why does my drawing look warped?
The vanishing points are probably too close together. Move them farther apart and keep all vertical lines parallel.
Can I draw a two story house this way?
Yes. Add another set of vertical lines above the first floor and aim the new edges at the same two vanishing points.
