Steps
Draw a horizontal line across the middle of your paper. This is the horizon line, and it sets the eye level of anyone standing in the room.
Place a single dot on the horizon line for the vanishing point. Every receding line in the drawing will aim at this dot.
Draw the back wall as a rectangle around the vanishing point. Then connect its four corners to the dot and cut them off with the front wall edges and floor line.
Sketch the sofa, table and shelves as simple boxes first. Line up their side edges with the vanishing point so they sit correctly in the room.
Divide the walls and floor into panels, tiles or boards using lines that also run to the vanishing point. Add door and window frames the same way.
Add textures to each surface: short strokes for wood grain, small squares for floor tiles, soft scribbles for fabric on the sofa.
Shade the room by darkening corners, the underside of furniture and areas away from the window. Keep the lightest areas near the light source.
Erase leftover guide lines and sharpen the main outlines. Check that every receding edge still points toward the vanishing point.
Tips and common mistakes
Keep the vanishing point in one fixed spot and check each new line against it.
Draw all construction lines lightly so you can erase them after shading.
Make objects closer to the front larger and objects near the back wall smaller for depth.
Questions
Where should I put the vanishing point?
Anywhere on the horizon line works. Placing it slightly off center usually gives a more natural view than putting it in the exact middle.
Do I need a ruler?
A ruler helps a lot at the start for straight lines to the vanishing point. Once the layout is set, you can sketch furniture freehand.
Can I use one point perspective for a corner view?
No. One point perspective shows a flat back wall facing you. For a corner view you need two point perspective.
