What you need
Steps
Draw a light horizontal line across the middle of your paper for the horizon. Mark one dot in the center of that line as your vanishing point.
Use the ruler to draw a rectangle for the building front, centered under the vanishing point. Keep the lines light so you can erase them.
Draw four faint lines from the corners of the rectangle to the vanishing point. These guide the side walls and roof depth.
Add the side wall by drawing a vertical line where the top and bottom guide lines meet. Connect it to the front rectangle.
Sketch a doorway in the center of the front wall. Draw its top and bottom edges angling toward the vanishing point so it looks recessed.
Place two or three windows on each side of the door. Keep them the same size and align their tops and bottoms with the guide lines.
Draw the path from the bottom of the doorway outward to the bottom corners of the page, widening as it comes toward you.
Add pavement lines across the path, spaced closer together as they move toward the vanishing point.
Go over the main outlines with the fine pen. Add small details like a door frame, window panes and stone joints.
Wait for the ink to dry, then erase the pencil guide lines and horizon. Shade lightly with the pencil if you want depth.
Tips and common mistakes
Keep your pencil lines light until the ink is done so mistakes erase cleanly.
All receding lines must meet at the single vanishing point or the building will look tilted.
Space pavement lines wider near you and closer together near the vanishing point for realistic depth.
Questions
Do I need a ruler for one-point perspective?
A ruler helps a lot at the start because straight guide lines make the perspective correct. You can draw freehand once you get the angles right.
Where should the vanishing point go?
Put it near the center of the horizon line for a straight-on view. Moving it left or right turns the building and shows more of one side wall.
Can I do this with just a pencil?
Yes. The pen is only for crisp outlines. A pencil alone works if you vary pressure for darker edges and lighter shading.
