Steps
Connect your Android phone and your laptop to the same Wi-Fi network. This lets PairDrop find both devices automatically.
On the laptop, open Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari and go to pairdrop.net. The page shows your device as a named icon.
On the Android phone, open Chrome and type the same address, pairdrop.net. Keep both browser tabs open and visible.
Click the small pencil icon under your device name on either screen and give it a clear name, like Laptop or Pixel, so you can tell the devices apart.
Wait a few seconds until the other device appears as an icon on both screens. If nothing shows up, check that both are on the same network and not on a guest Wi-Fi.
On the phone, tap the laptop icon, then tap Select files or the photo picker and choose the photos or documents you want to send.
Tap Open or Send to start the transfer. On the laptop, accept the incoming file when the prompt appears, or drag files onto the phone icon to send the other way.
Check that the file has finished saving, usually in your Downloads folder, before you close either browser tab.
If the devices are on different networks, open the Pair tab on both, then enter the same five-letter code or scan the QR code to link them.
Tips and common mistakes
Keep both browser tabs open and the phone screen awake during the transfer, or the connection can drop.
Auto-discovery only works on the same local network, so use the pairing code when one device is on mobile data.
Very large files can fail if the browser runs low on memory, so send big videos in smaller batches.
Public or guest Wi-Fi often blocks device-to-device traffic, so use a home network when you can.
Questions
Do I need to install an app?
No. PairDrop runs in the browser on both devices, so you only need to open pairdrop.net. Nothing is installed on the phone or the laptop.
Are the files stored on a server?
No. Files travel directly between the two devices over an encrypted peer-to-peer connection, so they are not uploaded to a storage server.
Why can't my laptop see my phone?
The usual causes are different Wi-Fi networks, a guest network that blocks device traffic, or a VPN turned on. Switch both to the same normal network and refresh the page.
