Steps
Open the Files app and go to the folder where you want the scan saved, such as On My iPhone or iCloud Drive.
Tap the More button, the circle with three dots at the top of the folder, then tap Scan Documents.
Hold the phone above the first page. The camera captures it automatically, or tap the shutter button to take the shot yourself.
Drag the corners to fit the page edges if the crop looks wrong, then tap Keep Scan.
Move straight on to the next page and let it capture. Repeat for every page. The counter shows how many you have done.
Tap Save when all pages are scanned. The pages are stored together as one PDF file in that folder.
Touch and hold the new file and tap Rename to give it a clear name you will recognise later.
Tips and common mistakes
Keep the phone parallel to the page and steady, or the edges will come out slanted.
Smooth each page flat and use bright, even light to avoid shadows and blurry text.
Scan in the order you want the pages to appear, since they are saved in the order captured.
Tap a page thumbnail before saving if you need to retake or delete a bad scan.
Questions
Where do my scanned pages go?
They save as a single PDF in the folder you were in when you started scanning. Open the Files app and look in that folder, or search for the file name.
Do I need to install another app?
No. The scanner is built into the Files app, so you can scan and combine pages without downloading anything.
Can I add a page to a scan I already saved?
Not inside the same file from the scanner. Scan the extra page as a new PDF, then use a PDF merge tool or the Files app to combine the two files.
