What you need
Steps
Confirm the interview format, date and time limit with your research centre, and read the latest VTU instructions so you know whether you must present slides.
Pick a narrow research topic in your field and collect 8 to 10 recent papers on it. Note each paper's method, data and main result in a table.
Find the research gap by writing down what those papers did not solve, then state it in one sentence you can say out loud.
Write a clear problem statement and two or three research objectives that map directly to that gap.
Build the proposal slides in this order: title, motivation, literature survey, gap, problem statement, objectives, methodology, expected outcomes, timeline and references.
Describe your methodology step by step, covering the tools, samples or datasets, the experiments and how you will measure success.
Add one slide on novelty and expected contribution that says what is new compared with the papers you read.
Revise the fundamentals of your subject, because panels often ask basic questions from your own discipline.
Practise the full presentation aloud within the time limit, then answer likely questions such as why this topic, why this centre, what the gap is and what the limits are.
Do a final check the day before: slides on a pen drive and in your email, printed notes, ID documents and the latest VTU instructions.
Tips and common mistakes
Keep the deck short, about 10 to 12 slides for a 10 minute talk, and hold extra backup slides for questions.
Never claim a gap you cannot back with papers; name the authors and years.
If you do not know an answer, say so and explain how you would find out.
Do not read from the slides; the panel wants to hear you explain your own work.
Questions
How long should the research proposal presentation be?
Follow the time your research centre gives you. As a guide, prepare about 10 to 12 slides for a 10 minute talk and keep backup slides for questions.
What if I have not published any papers yet?
That is normal for a PhD applicant. Show that you understand recent papers, can spot a gap and have a workable plan.
Which questions come up most often?
Expect questions on your research gap, objectives, methodology, why you chose this university or guide, and basics from your subject.
