Steps

  1. Log in to the SmartCard eIM app or your online account. The app and online account do the same things but look a little different.

  2. Select the Transfer & BPAY icon to open the payment options.

  3. To send money to another enhanced Income Management account, choose Transfer and enter the BSB and account details of the person you want to pay.

  4. Choose Internal if the person has the same BSB as you. Choose External if their BSB is different.

  5. Enter the person's name, account number and the amount. Check every detail before you continue, because money sent to the wrong person may not come back.

  6. Select Enter to send the transfer. You can save the person's details to use again later.

  7. To pay a bill, choose the BPAY option and enter the biller code, your reference number and the amount.

  8. Pick when to pay: now, later, or Recurring for weekly, fortnightly or monthly payments. For later payments, enter the date. For recurring payments, set a start and end date or the number of payments.

  9. Select Enter to submit the payment. A payment made now shows a success message, while a scheduled payment only confirms once it has been made.

  10. To set up a direct debit, contact the bank or business you need to pay and give them your enhanced Income Management account number and BSB. You can find these in your account.

Tips and common mistakes

Make sure the account has enough money before you pay, or the payment will not go through.

Double-check the BSB, account number and amount before you press Enter, since wrong transfers can be hard to reverse.

To pay an account that is not an enhanced Income Management account, call Services Australia for help.

Save regular payees so you do not have to re-enter their details each time.

Questions

What is the difference between Internal and External transfers?

Use Internal when the person you are paying has the same BSB number as you. Use External when their BSB is different.

When will I know a scheduled BPAY payment went through?

Payments made now show a success message straight away. Scheduled or recurring payments only confirm after the payment date has passed.

How do I find my BSB and account number for a direct debit?

Your enhanced Income Management account number and BSB are shown in your app or online account. Give both to the bank or business setting up the direct debit.
