What you need

Steps

  1. Write the 7 times table from 7×1 to 7×12 on paper before you press play. Seeing the numbers in your own handwriting helps them stick.

  2. Play the first section from 0:00 and sing along with the facts from 7 to 35. Say each answer out loud, even when you are unsure.

  3. Link each fact to a picture or tiny story, as the song does. Draw a quick sketch beside the sum on your paper.

  4. Carry on with the second section from 0:28, which covers 42 to 70. Pause and repeat any line you cannot keep up with.

  5. Use the split trick on the harder facts: 7×8 is 5×8 plus 2×8, so 40 plus 16 makes 56.

  6. Play the last section from 0:53 and answer before the song does, with your sketches covered up.

  7. Test yourself out of order. Write the twelve facts on cards, shuffle them and answer each one within three seconds.

  8. Repeat the whole routine the next day, then again after three days. Short daily practice beats one long session.

Tips and common mistakes

The 7 times table has few easy patterns, so chant it in rhythm instead of reading it silently.

Say the whole fact aloud, not just the answer: seven eights are fifty-six.

Practise the facts you get wrong three times as often as the ones you already know.

Keep each session to ten or fifteen minutes so your focus stays sharp.

Questions

What is the easiest way to remember the 7 times table?

Chant it aloud in rhythm and split each fact into 5 times plus 2 times. So 7×6 becomes 30 plus 12, which is 42.

How long does it take to learn the 7 times table?

Most learners need a few short sessions across about a week. Ten to fifteen minutes a day works better than one long hour.

Why is the 7 times table harder than the others?

It shows fewer obvious patterns than the 2s, 5s or 10s. Rhythm, pictures and the 5-plus-2 split give you handles to hold on to.
