Steps
Download the official syllabus for your compulsory and optional subjects. Print it and tick each topic as you finish making notes on it.
Read the last five years of past papers for each subject. Mark which topics repeat often, because those deserve the most detailed notes.
Read one topic from your main textbook once, then close the book and write the main points from memory in your own words.
Write only headings, definitions, names, dates and three to five short bullets per topic. Skip full sentences and long paragraphs.
Use abbreviations, arrows and simple tables so one page can hold a whole chapter. Highlight only the terms you must memorise exactly.
Write the past paper question and its year in the margin next to the topic it belongs to, so you see how it is asked.
Leave a wide margin and two or three blank lines on every page. Add new facts, figures and quotes there as you find them.
Number and date each page and build an index at the front of the notebook so you can open any topic in seconds.
Revise the notes after one day, then after a week, then monthly. Rewrite only the sections you keep forgetting.
Tips and common mistakes
Never copy sentences straight from the book, because copying feels like studying but leaves nothing in your memory.
Handwrite your notes where you can, since writing by hand slows you down and helps you remember the points.
Keep each topic to one page at most, so the whole subject stays readable in the final week.
Update the blank lines with fresh statistics and examples instead of starting a new notebook.
Questions
How long should my notes be for each topic?
Aim for one page per topic, or two for a heavy topic. If it runs longer, cut examples rather than key facts.
Do I need notes for every subject?
Make full notes for the compulsory subjects and the optionals you find hardest. For easy subjects, a one page summary of headings is enough.
Can I type my notes instead of writing them?
Yes, and typing is faster for long syllabi. Keep the same layout of headings, bullets and margin questions so revision stays quick.
