Steps
Install the Google Docs app from the App Store and open it. Sign in with your Google account if the app asks you to.
Tap an existing document from the list, or tap the plus button and choose Blank document to start a new file.
Tap the pencil icon in the bottom right corner so the document switches to edit mode. The toolbar appears above the keyboard.
Tap where you want the list to begin. If you already typed the tasks, select those lines first.
Tap the checklist icon in the toolbar. If you cannot see it, tap the more menu or scroll the toolbar to the right.
Type your first task and press Return. Google Docs adds a new checkbox on the next line for you.
Keep typing each task and pressing Return. Press Return twice on an empty checkbox to leave the list.
Tap the box next to a finished task to tick it. The text gets a line through it but stays in the document.
Tap a ticked box again to clear it if you checked it by mistake.
Close the document when you are done. Google Docs saves every change as you type, so there is no save button.
Tips and common mistakes
Use the checklist icon, not the bulleted list icon, or your tasks will not get tick boxes.
To turn lines you already typed into a checklist, select them first and then tap the checklist icon.
Ticking a box only adds a strikethrough, so you can still read what you finished.
Turn the phone sideways to landscape if your tasks are long and keep wrapping onto extra lines.
Questions
Can I make a checklist in Google Docs on Android?
Yes. The checklist button sits in the same toolbar, though its spot on the bar can differ slightly from the iPhone layout.
Does ticking a box delete the task?
No. It only adds a line through the text. The task stays in the document until you delete it yourself.
Can I share the checklist with someone else?
Yes. Tap the share icon, then invite people by email or send them the document link so they can view or edit it.
