Steps
Open Google Sheets and start a blank spreadsheet. Click the title at the top left, currently Untitled spreadsheet, and type Daily Task Tracker so you can find it later.
In row 1, type these headers across the columns: Task, Priority, Due Date, Status, Notes. Keep each header in its own cell with no blank columns between them.
Select row 1, click the Bold button, then drag the right edge of the Notes column header to widen it. Drag a row border to make the rows taller if the text feels cramped.
Click the Priority column header to select it, then go to Data, then Data validation. Choose Add rule, set the criteria to Dropdown and enter High, Medium and Low as the options.
Repeat for the Status column with three options: Not started, In progress, Done. Click Done to save the rule and apply the menus to that column.
Grab the small blue square in the bottom right corner of a filled cell and drag it down the column to copy the drop-down logic to more rows. Do the same for the Status column.
Select the Status column, open Format, then Conditional formatting. Add a rule for text exactly Done with a green fill, one for In progress with yellow, and one for Not started with red.
Select your whole range, open Format, then Convert to table. Pick a style with a coloured header row and banded rows so the tracker reads like a clean database grid.
Type your tasks in the Task column each morning, pick a priority from the drop-down, add the date in Due Date and update the Status as you work through them.
Tips and common mistakes
Make the drop-down text match the conditional formatting text exactly, or the colours will not appear.
Skip merged cells in your tracker because they break sorting, filtering and table conversion.
Add a filter from the Data menu so you can show only the tasks marked In progress.
Keep one sheet per week and duplicate it with right click, then Duplicate to start a fresh tracker.
Questions
Why is my conditional formatting not changing colour?
The rule text must match the cell text exactly, including capital letters and spaces. Check for a trailing space and confirm the rule applies to the right range.
Can I reuse the tracker every day?
Yes. Right click the sheet tab and choose Duplicate to make a clean copy, or just clear the Task column each morning and keep the formatting and drop-downs.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Google Sheets runs free in a browser, and the drop-down and conditional formatting tools are built in.
