What you need

Steps

  1. Play the video once from the start without pausing. Just listen to the introduction and get used to the speaker's voice and speed.

  2. Rewatch the story section from 0:45. Pause after each sentence and say it aloud before you move on.

  3. Write down every relative you hear, such as parents, siblings, aunts, uncles and cousins. Draw a simple family tree with these words on paper.

  4. Move to the vocabulary review at 3:15. For each word, note the meaning in your own language and write one example sentence.

  5. Match each adjective to a real person you know. For example, write "My older brother is funny" or "My aunt is kind".

  6. Join the listen and repeat practice at 5:00. Copy the speaker's pronunciation and rhythm one sentence at a time.

  7. Record yourself on your phone describing your own family in five sentences. Use at least three new words from the lesson.

  8. Answer the question of the day in your notebook: is your family big or small, and who is in it?

Tips and common mistakes

Slow the video to 0.75 speed if the speaker feels too fast on the first listen.

Learn words in pairs, like older and younger or close-knit and relatives, so they stick together.

Repeat the same story the next day. Spaced review works better than one long session.

Do not translate every word. Focus on the family nouns and the adjectives first.

Questions

Do I need to understand every word in the story?

No. Aim to catch the family words and the adjectives first. The rest of the sentence gives you the context.

How long should I practise each day?

Fifteen to twenty minutes a day is enough. One full pass through the story plus the speaking practice covers it.

What level is this lesson for?

It is aimed at beginners and A2 learners. If the story feels easy, try repeating it without looking at the screen.
