What you need
Steps
Your iPhone and connect it to the Windows 11 PC with a USB cable. Use the cable that came with the phone if you have it, since charge-only cables often fail.
Tap Trust on the iPhone screen when the prompt appears, then enter your passcode. The PC cannot read your photos until you allow access.
If Windows shows an Autoplay prompt, close it or choose to open the device in File Explorer. You do not need Autoplay for this method.
Open File Explorer from the taskbar and click Apple iPhone in the left sidebar under This PC.
Double click Internal Storage, then open the DCIM folder. Your camera photos sit in subfolders such as 100APPLE.
Select the photos or folders you want, right click and choose Copy. Press Ctrl and A to grab a whole folder at once.
Open the folder on your PC where the photos should go, right click and choose Paste. Leave the cable connected until the progress bar finishes.
If photos are missing, open the Photos app on the iPhone and check they are downloaded from iCloud, or import them through the Windows Photos app instead.
If the iPhone does not appear at all, it again, try another USB port and cable, and install the Apple Devices app so Windows has the right driver.
Tips and common mistakes
Keep the phone unlocked and plugged in during the copy, because a locked screen can interrupt the transfer.
Copy rather than move so the originals stay on your iPhone as a backup.
Older Windows apps may not open HEIC files, so set Camera, Formats to Most Compatible in iPhone Settings if you need JPEG.
Right click the iPhone in File Explorer and choose Eject before you unplug the cable.
Questions
Why do my iPhone photos not show up in File Explorer?
The pictures may only exist in iCloud, or the phone may have locked itself. Download the originals to the phone first, or use the Windows Photos app import instead.
Can I move photos without a cable?
Yes, with iCloud for Windows or a wireless transfer app. A cable is still the fastest option for large batches and needs no extra software.
Will copying delete the photos from my iPhone?
No. Copying leaves the originals in place, so your phone keeps every picture until you delete it yourself.
