Steps

  1. Put both AirPods inside the charging case and keep the lid open. The case must stay open while you pair, or the AirPods will not be discoverable.

  2. Press and hold the small round button on the back of the case for about 5 seconds, until the status light flashes white.

  3. On your PC, open Start, then Settings, then Bluetooth and devices. In Windows 10, the menu is called Bluetooth and other devices.

  4. Make sure the Bluetooth switch is on, then click Add device and choose Bluetooth from the list.

  5. Wait for your AirPods to appear in the list, click their name, and give Windows a few seconds to set them up.

  6. Click the speaker icon in the taskbar, pick your AirPods as the output device, and play something to test the sound.

  7. If you use them for calls, open the sound settings and set the AirPods as both the input and output device.

Tips and common mistakes

Keep the case lid open and the AirPods inside during the whole pairing process.

If your iPhone grabs the connection, turn off Bluetooth on the phone until the PC is paired.

On some PCs the AirPods appear as two entries, one for stereo sound and one for calls, so pick the stereo one for music.

Questions

My AirPods do not show up in the Bluetooth list. What now?

Close the case, open it again and hold the back button until the light flashes white. Then click Add device in Windows again and give it a few seconds to scan.

Can I use the AirPods microphone on Windows?

Yes, but Windows switches to a lower quality call mode while the mic is active, so music sounds worse until you change the output back.

How do I stop the AirPods connecting to my PC?

Open Settings, Bluetooth and devices, find the AirPods and choose Remove device. They will then pair with your phone again as normal.
