Steps
Press the Cycle button to let the globe rotate to the home position, then unplug the unit so it cannot cycle while you work.
Pull the waste drawer out from the base and lift out the used liner. Tie it closed and put it in the trash.
Fit a new liner into the drawer, pressing it into the corners and folding the edge over the rim. Slide the drawer back in.
Remove the bonnet by pressing the tabs on each side, then lift the globe off the base and set it on a floor or tub.
Wipe the inside of the globe with a damp cloth and mild soap. Rinse the cloth and wipe again, then let the globe air dry fully.
Wipe the base, the drawer opening and the sensors with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Do not pour water into the base.
Pull out the old charcoal filter from its slot on the base and push in a new one.
Set the dry globe back on the base, refit the bonnet until the tabs click, and add clumping litter up to the fill line.
Plug the unit back in, press Cycle, and check that the globe turns freely and the drawer reads empty.
Shake out or vacuum the litter trapping mat in front of the entry and place it back down.
Tips and common mistakes
Never use bleach or harsh chemicals inside the globe, since residue can harm your cat.
Let the globe dry completely before refitting it so litter does not stick to wet plastic.
Replace the charcoal filter every few weeks to keep odors down.
Keep the litter below the fill line, because overfilling causes clumps to stick and jam the cycle.
Questions
How often should I clean the Litter-Robot?
Empty the waste drawer every few days and do a full wipe-down of the globe and base about once a month. Replace the filter at the same time.
Can I wash the globe with a hose?
The globe can be rinsed, but the base with the motor and sensors must stay dry. Wipe the base only and never submerge it.
What litter works best in a Litter-Robot 3?
Use a clumping clay litter. Avoid crystal, pellet or non-clumping litters, which can confuse the sensors or fail to clump.
