Steps
Open the Instagram app and swipe right from your feed to open the Story camera, or tap Your story at the top of the feed.
Take the photo or record the clip, then tap the checkmark to open it in the Story editor, where the drawing and sticker tools live.
Tap the sticker icon at the top of the screen and type blur into the search box. Pick a soft blur or glow patch from the results.
Drag the sticker over the face, then pinch with two fingers to shrink or stretch it until the face is fully covered. Rotate it to match the angle.
For the brush method, tap the pen icon, choose the marker or highlighter tip and pick a colour close to the skin or the background.
Use the slider on the left to make the brush bigger, then scribble in small circles over the face until no features show through.
If the face moves in a video, blur it in a free editor such as CapCut or a mosaic app first, then share the saved clip to your Story.
Tap the preview to check the blur at full size, add any text or music, then tap Your story to publish.
Tips and common mistakes
A sticker stays fixed in place, so it will not follow a moving face in a video clip.
One light pen stroke is easy to see through. Layer two or three passes, or use a darker colour.
Blur mirrors, windows and reflections in the shot too, since a face can still be recognised there.
Tap the undo arrow if a brush stroke lands in the wrong spot instead of starting the Story again.
Questions
Does Instagram have a one-tap face blur tool?
No. Instagram Stories has no built-in face blur button, so you cover the face with a blur sticker, a pen stroke, or an edit made in another app before uploading.
Can I blur a face after the Story is posted?
Not on the posted Story. Delete it, blur the photo or clip, and post the new version.
Will the blur stay on the face for the whole video clip?
A sticker or pen stroke is static, so it covers one spot for the whole clip. For a moving face, blur it in a video editor before you upload.
