Steps
Open the Microsoft Store on your Windows PC, search for Apple Devices and install the app. Wait for the install to finish before you plug in your phone.
Connect your iPhone 18 Pro or Pro Max to the PC with a USB cable. If a Trust prompt appears on the phone, tap Trust and enter your passcode.
Launch the Apple Devices app and click your iPhone in the left sidebar. Then open the General tab and go to Options.
In the Backups section, choose Back up all of the data on your iPhone to this computer. Pick the option that does not require encryption unless you need saved passwords and health data.
Click Backup Now. When the phone asks for confirmation, enter your iPhone passcode to start the backup.
Leave the cable connected and wait for the progress bar to reach the end. Do not close the app or unplug the phone while it runs.
Open Manage Backups to confirm the new backup is listed with today's date and time. Then unplug the phone.
Tips and common mistakes
Keep the phone unlocked and connected during the backup, or the process may stop.
An encrypted backup saves passwords and health data, so set and remember the backup password if you choose it.
Back up to an external drive if your PC has little free space, since iPhone backups can be large.
Questions
Do I need iTunes for this?
No. On current Windows versions, the Apple Devices app replaces iTunes for backups, updates and device management.
Where do I find the backup file on my PC?
Use Manage Backups in the Apple Devices app to see and delete backups. The files are stored in your Windows user folder under Apple, MobileSync, Backup.
Can I back up over Wi-Fi?
The Apple Devices app backs up over USB. Keep the cable connected for the whole process.
