What you need
Steps
Open a blank document or a simple CV template. Keep the layout plain with one column of text, since Norwegian employers expect a clean, easy-to-read page.
Put your full name at the top, then your phone number, email and town. Add a short line saying what kind of job you are looking for.
Write a short profile of three or four lines. Say what you can do, your experience level and that you are ready to start.
List your work experience newest first. For each job give the employer, your job title, the months and years, and one or two tasks you handled.
Add your education in the same newest-first order. Include the school or college name, the course and the years you attended.
Add a skills section with languages and their level, computer programs, driving licence and any certificates. Keep each item short.
Name two references with their job title and phone number, or write that references are available on request. Ask them first.
Read the whole CV once for spelling and dates. Save it as a PDF so the layout stays the same when you email it.
Tips and common mistakes
Keep the CV to one or two pages, since long CVs often get skipped.
Do not leave gaps in dates unexplained. A short line about studying or language classes is enough.
Write in Norwegian if the job advert is in Norwegian, and in English only when the advert is in English.
Tailor the profile and skills to each job advert instead of sending the same CV everywhere.
Questions
Should I include a photo on a Norwegian CV?
A photo is optional and many employers no longer expect one. Leave it out if you are unsure, and keep the focus on your skills and experience.
Do I need to list my date of birth or nationality?
No. Norwegian CVs usually leave out age, date of birth, nationality and marital status. Only mention a work permit if the employer asks.
Can I use my Bangladeshi driving licence in Norway?
A foreign licence can often be used for a limited period after you become a resident, but the rules depend on the country. Check with Statens vegvesen before you drive.
