What you need
Steps
Your iPhone and tap the Safari icon on the Home Screen or in the App Library to open the browser.
Tap the Tabs button at the bottom right, the two overlapping squares, to see all your open tabs.
Tap the History button, shown as a clock icon in the tab view, or tap the book icon and choose the History tab.
Scroll the list to browse your visits. Entries are grouped by day, with the newest pages at the top.
Tap the search field at the top of the list and type a word or domain to filter the history down to matching pages.
To remove entries, tap Edit, tick the pages you want gone and tap Delete. To wipe everything, tap Clear and pick Today, Today and Yesterday or All time.
Confirm with Clear History when iOS asks. The list empties and the action cannot be undone on the phone.
Tips and common mistakes
Pages opened in Private Browsing tabs never appear in this list, so there is no private history to view.
Clearing history does not remove cookies or cached files. Use Settings, Safari, Clear History and Website Data for a full wipe.
If iCloud Safari sync is on, clearing history on the iPhone also clears it on your other Apple devices.
Deleted history cannot be recovered from the phone itself, so check an iCloud backup first if you need the record.
Questions
How far back does Safari history go?
Safari keeps roughly the last year of visits on the device. Older entries drop off automatically, and there is no setting to extend that limit.
Can I see history from Private Browsing?
No. Private tabs are not recorded in the history list, and nothing is saved once you close them.
Does clearing history delete my bookmarks?
No. Bookmarks, Reading List items and saved passwords stay in place. Only the record of visited pages is removed.
