Open the spreadsheet you want to work on in Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel, and sign in to the Google or Microsoft account that owns the file.

Drag the fill handle down the column to copy the formula to every row. Each row gets its own answer beside the source text.
Try other functions the same way: GPT_TRANSLATE to convert text, GPT_SUMMARIZE to shorten long notes, and GPT_CLASSIFY to sort rows into categories.
Use the add-on menu to refresh the formulas after you change a prompt, because results are cached to save API calls.
Tips and common mistakes
Every formula call uses your OpenAI credit, so test on five rows before filling a whole column.
Write specific prompts, like "under 15 words, friendly tone", or the answers will be too long for a cell.
Copy the answer column and paste as values only if you plan to remove the add-in later.
The built-in Copilot button in Excel needs a Microsoft 365 Copilot plan, while the add-in route works on most versions.
