Steps
Turn the printer on and load paper. Make sure the ink cartridges are installed and the printer has finished its initial setup routine.
Press the Setup button on the printer control panel until the Wi-Fi lamp starts to flash, then release it.
Press the Wi-Fi button, then use the arrow buttons to scroll to the Wi-Fi Direct option and press OK.
When the printer asks to enable Wi-Fi Direct, select Yes and press OK. The printer will show or print the network name (SSID) and password.
On your phone, tablet or laptop, open the Wi-Fi settings and look for a network name starting with DIRECT- followed by the printer model.
Tap that network, enter the password shown on the printer screen or test page, and connect.
Open the Canon Print app or your device's print menu, choose the Pixma TR3720 or TR3722, and print a test page to confirm the link works.
To turn Wi-Fi Direct off later, press the Wi-Fi button, scroll to Wi-Fi Direct, select Disable and press OK.
Tips and common mistakes
Keep the printer and your device within a few metres during setup so the signal stays strong.
The Wi-Fi Direct password is case sensitive, so type it exactly as shown on the printer.
Only a limited number of devices can join at once, so disconnect old phones you no longer use.
Wi-Fi Direct gives no internet access, so switch your device back to your normal network after printing.
Questions
Do I need a router for Wi-Fi Direct?
No. Wi-Fi Direct creates its own small network from the printer, so your device connects straight to it without a home router.
Where do I find the Wi-Fi Direct password?
The printer shows it on the LCD screen when you enable the mode, and you can also print a network settings page from the setup menu.
Why won't my phone see the printer's network?
Make sure Wi-Fi Direct is enabled and the Wi-Fi lamp is lit or flashing. Move closer to the printer and refresh the Wi-Fi list on your device.
