What you need
Steps
Park on level ground, set the parking brake and chock the rear wheels. Put on gloves and safety glasses before you start.
Loosen the front wheel lug nuts with the 21mm socket while the truck is still on the ground.
Jack up the front corner and lower it onto a jack stand under a solid frame point. Never work under a truck held only by a jack.
Remove the wheel with the 21mm socket and set it aside. This opens access to the reservoir behind the inner fender.
Pull back the inner fender liner or remove its screws with the Phillips screwdriver and trim tools to reach the tank.
Unplug the washer pump connector and pull the pump or its hose off the old tank. Keep a rag handy for spilled fluid.
Remove the 10mm bolts holding the reservoir and lift the old tank out.
Set the new reservoir in place, refit the 10mm bolts and reconnect the pump and hose.
Refit the fender liner, mount the wheel and snug the lug nuts. Lower the truck, then torque the lugs with the torque wrench.
Fill the tank with washer fluid and test the spray on the windshield. Check for leaks at the pump and hose.
Tips and common mistakes
Empty the old tank with a siphon or by running the washer before you remove it to reduce spills.
Do not overtighten the plastic reservoir bolts or you can crack the new tank.
Check the pump seal and hose for cracks while the tank is out, since a bad seal can look like a leaking tank.
Questions
Do I need to remove the front wheel?
On most Frontier models the reservoir sits behind the inner fender, so removing the wheel gives the clearest access. Some trims may allow it from above, but the wheel route is safer.
Can I reuse the old washer pump?
Yes, if it still works. Unplug it and transfer it to the new tank, but replace the rubber grommet if it is hard or torn.
How much washer fluid does the tank hold?
Fill until the fluid reaches the neck, then run the washer and top it up again. Do not overfill past the cap line.
