What you need
Steps
Park on level ground, loosen the lug nuts slightly, then lift the front of the car and set it on jack stands. Never work under a car held only by a jack.
Remove the front wheel and set it aside. Clean the caliper and bracket area with brake cleaner so you can see the bolts.
Unbolt the caliper guide pins and lift the caliper off the bracket. Hang it from the suspension spring with a strap or wire so the brake hose is not stretched.
Remove the two bolts holding the caliper bracket and take the bracket off. Pull the old pads out of the bracket and note their orientation.
Remove the rotor retaining screw if fitted, then pull the old rotor off the hub. If it is stuck, tap it with a rubber mallet.
Clean the hub face with a wire brush and brake cleaner. Fit the new rotor and tighten the retaining screw.
Compress the caliper piston back into the bore with a C-clamp or piston tool. Open the brake fluid reservoir cap first and watch the level.
Grease the pad ears and bracket slides lightly, then fit the new pads. Reinstall the caliper bracket and torque the bolts to spec.
Slide the caliper back over the pads, refit the guide pins and torque them. Check that the pads sit square and the hose is not twisted.
Refit the wheel, lower the car and torque the lug nuts. Pump the brake pedal until it feels firm, then repeat the whole job on the other side.
Tips and common mistakes
Pump the brake pedal several times before driving, or the first press will go to the floor.
Check the brake fluid level after compressing the pistons and top up if needed.
Bed in the new pads with a few gentle stops from low speed, avoiding hard braking for the first 100 miles.
Verify pad and rotor part numbers against your VIN, since Kia changed them across trims and build dates.
Questions
Do I have to replace the rotors when I change the pads?
Not always, but worn or scored rotors cause vibration and uneven braking. Doing both at once gives you fresh friction surfaces.
Can I reuse the old caliper bolts?
Yes, if they are in good condition. Clean the threads and torque them to the Kia spec for your model.
How do I know the pads fit my Seltos?
Check the part number against your VIN at a Kia dealer or parts site. Brake setups vary by trim and production date.
