Steps
Open Settings, tap General, then iPhone Storage. Wait for the bar chart and app list to load, then find Apple Intelligence in the list and note the space it uses.
Tap Apple Intelligence & Siri in Settings and switch the Apple Intelligence toggle off. Your iPhone then deletes the on-device models it downloaded.
Confirm by tapping Turn Off Apple Intelligence when the prompt appears. Siri keeps working with the standard, non-AI version.
If you prefer the storage list, go back to iPhone Storage, tap Apple Intelligence, then tap Delete or Offload to remove its files.
Restart your iPhone. Hold the side button with either volume button, slide to power off, then turn it back on.
Check iPhone Storage again after a minute. The freed space shows in the coloured bar at the top and in the available storage figure.
Free more space by offloading unused apps. In iPhone Storage, tap an app, then tap Offload App to keep its data but remove the app itself.
Turn Apple Intelligence back on later in Settings, Apple Intelligence & Siri. Keep the phone on Wi-Fi and plugged in while the models download again.
Tips and common mistakes
Turning Apple Intelligence off also turns off Writing Tools, Genmoji and notification summaries until you switch it back on.
The freed amount is small on most phones, so check the Apple Intelligence entry in iPhone Storage before expecting a big gain.
If the Apple Intelligence entry is missing from iPhone Storage, update iOS first and check again.
Questions
Does turning off Apple Intelligence delete my photos or messages?
No. It only removes the AI model files from your iPhone. Your photos, messages, apps and accounts stay exactly as they are.
How much space will I get back?
It varies by iPhone model and iOS version, usually a few gigabytes. Check the Apple Intelligence entry in iPhone Storage to see your own figure.
Can I still use Siri without Apple Intelligence?
Yes. Siri still handles basic requests like timers, calls and messages after you turn Apple Intelligence off.
