Steps
Measure your window and decide whether the rail goes on the wall or the ceiling. Mark the height or position with a pencil so the curtains clear the floor or sill.
Open the VIDGA set and lay out the track, brackets, gliders and screws. Check the box date: sets sold before 1 December 2021 do not include ceiling fixtures.
Assemble the track sections if your rail comes in pieces. Push the connectors in fully so the joints sit flush and the gliders run smoothly.
Hold the track against the wall or ceiling at your marks. Use a spirit level to check it is straight, then pencil the bracket holes.
Drill the holes at the marked points. Use the right bit for your wall and keep the drill straight so the plugs sit flush.
Push wall plugs into the holes and screw the brackets in place. For ceiling mounting, fit the separate ceiling fixtures first.
Clip or screw the track onto the brackets and check it is firm. Give it a gentle pull to make sure it holds.
Slide the gliders into the track before you hang anything. Fit the end stops so the curtains cannot run off the ends.
Hook your curtains onto the gliders and test the run. Adjust the end stops and glider spacing until the curtains open and close evenly.
Tips and common mistakes
Drill into wall plugs, not just plasterboard, or the rail will pull out once the curtains hang.
Use a helper to hold the track while you mark and drill so the holes line up.
Fit the gliders before you fix the track to the brackets, as it is harder afterwards.
Check the box date before you start so you know if you need extra ceiling fixtures.
Questions
Can I mount the VIDGA rail on the ceiling?
Yes. The track can go on the wall or the ceiling. Sets sold before 1 December 2021 did not include the ceiling fixtures, so buy them separately.
How many brackets do I need for one rail?
Follow the bracket count in your VIDGA set instructions. Add extra brackets for long tracks so the rail does not sag in the middle.
Can I cut the rail to length?
Check your model's instructions first. Some tracks can be shortened, but cutting can damage the glider channel if you do it roughly.
