  1. Sign in to the Google Account whose passwords you want to manage. Do this in Chrome on a computer or on your Android phone.

  2. On a computer, go to passwords.google.com. In Chrome you can also open the three-dot menu, choose Settings, then Autofill and passwords, then Google Password Manager.

  3. On Android, open Settings, then Google, then Manage your Google Account, then Security, then Password Manager.

  4. When Google asks you to verify, enter your phone's screen lock PIN, pattern or password, or use your fingerprint or face. That screen lock is the PIN Password Manager uses.

  5. If you forgot that PIN, your phone with your backup method, then set a new one in Settings, then Security, then Screen lock.

  6. On a computer with no device lock, verify with your Google Account password instead. Password Manager accepts that in place of a device PIN.

  8. To approve a passkey, open Password Manager, tap the passkey you want, and confirm with the same screen lock PIN or biometrics.

Tips and common mistakes

There is no separate PIN stored inside Google Password Manager; it always uses your device screen lock or Google Account password.

If the PIN prompt keeps failing, check you are unlocking the same device where the passkey was saved.

Keep your recovery phone number and email up to date so you can get back in if you forget the PIN.

Never share your screen lock PIN, since anyone with it can approve passkey sign-ins on your device.

Questions

Where can I see my Google Password Manager PIN?

It is never shown anywhere. Google Password Manager uses your phone's screen lock PIN or your Google Account password to check that it is really you.

How do I reset the PIN if I forgot it?

Reset your screen lock in your phone's Settings under Security, or verify with your Google Account password on a computer. Changing the phone PIN does not delete your saved passwords.

Why does Password Manager keep asking for the PIN?

Google asks each time you view or use a saved password or passkey, so that someone holding your unlocked device cannot use them.
