Steps
Put both AirPods in the charging case and close the lid. Wait about 15 seconds so they disconnect from your phone.
Open the lid and keep the AirPods inside. Leave the case near your iPhone or iPad.
Check the back of the case. If there is a small round setup button, use the button method below. If there is no button, skip to the no-button method.
Press and hold the setup button on the back of the case for about 15 seconds. Keep holding while the status light flashes white, then amber.
Release the button when the light flashes white again. The AirPods are now reset and ready to pair.
For cases without a button, open the lid with the AirPods inside. Press and hold the status light or the small button area on the front for about 15 seconds.
Watch for the light to flash white, then amber, then white again. Let go and close the lid.
Open Settings, tap Bluetooth and pair the AirPods again. If they do not appear, forget the old entry first and retry.
Tips and common mistakes
Keep the case lid open during the reset or the light may not show the full sequence.
Charge the case before you start so the reset is not cut short by a low battery.
If one AirPod still will not connect, reset again and check that both buds sit fully in the case.
Questions
Will a factory reset delete my AirPods settings?
Yes. The reset clears the pairing and returns the AirPods to default settings. You pair them again like new afterwards.
How do I know the reset worked?
The status light flashes white, then amber, then white again. After that the AirPods show up in Bluetooth settings as a new device.
Do I need to reset both AirPods?
Yes. Put both buds in the case and reset the pair together. Resetting one bud alone usually does not fix pairing problems.
