How to do heatless curls with Kitsch rollers

You will wrap your hair around a Kitsch heatless curling rod before bed and wake up with soft curls, no hot tools needed. It suits anyone with shoulder length or longer hair who wants waves without heat damage. You only need the roller set, a brush and a few minutes.

What you need

Steps

  1. Start with dry or slightly damp hair. Brush out every knot so each section wraps smoothly. Damp hair gives a tighter curl, but it must be fully dry before you unwrap it.

  2. Place the rod on your head like a headband. Centre it so the loop sits on top of your head and the two ends hang evenly behind your ears.

  3. Take a section about 1 to 2 inches wide at the front. Wrap it around the rod, moving away from your face, keeping the hair flat as you go.

  4. Add more hair to that side as you wrap, or wrap each section on its own for tighter curls. Change the direction you wrap on each side for a natural finish.

  5. Tuck the ends under the rod so they do not stick out, then slide a scrunchie over that side to hold the hair in place.

  6. Repeat on the other side. Cross the two ends at the back of your head and tie them with the second scrunchie.

  7. Leave the rollers in for 6 to 8 hours, or sleep in them overnight. They should feel snug, never tight enough to pull at your scalp.

  8. Unwind each side slowly and slide the rod out. Do not pull it straight off or you will flatten the curls.

  9. Separate the curls with your fingers and shape them around your face. Leave the brush alone or the bounce will drop.

Tips and common mistakes

Wrap slightly damp hair for a tighter curl, but let it dry completely before you take the rod out.

Keep the tension firm but loose enough that your scalp does not ache or mark.

Wrap the front pieces away from your face so the curls frame it instead of covering it.

Finish with a drop of light oil on the ends to cut frizz, and never brush the finished curls.

Questions

How long do the rollers need to stay in?

About 6 to 8 hours gives a full set of curls, so overnight is easiest. Two to three hours gives softer waves.

Can I sleep in Kitsch heatless rollers?

Yes, the satin rod is made for overnight wear. Expect the curls on the side you sleep on to come out a little looser.

Will this work on short or thick hair?

It works best on shoulder length or longer hair. Short layers can slip out, so use smaller sections and an extra scrunchie.
