What you need

Steps

  1. Warm up with 30 seconds of jumping jacks, then 40 seconds of high knees. Keep a steady pace and land softly on the balls of your feet.

  2. Add arm swings to your high knees for 50 seconds. Swing the arms overhead as each knee lifts to raise your heart rate.

  3. Do standing crunches by pulling your knee up and bringing the opposite elbow toward it. Alternate sides for 35 seconds.

  4. Move into elbow to knee crunches, twisting your torso as the knee rises. Keep the movement slow and controlled for about 50 seconds.

  5. Perform standing oblique crunches, bending to one side and then the other. Feel the pull along the side of your waist for 50 seconds.

  6. Step the feet wide into goddess pose and add side bends. Reach one arm overhead and lean, then switch sides.

  7. Stay in goddess pose for twists and punches. Rotate the torso and punch across the body to work the obliques.

  8. Do squat and twist reps, lowering into a squat and rotating your torso at the bottom. Keep the knees tracking over the toes.

  9. Lie on your back for ardha halasana, lifting the legs and lowering them with control. Then do scissor kicks and forward and reverse pedals.

  10. Finish on the floor with supine hip twists, dead bug, pawanmuktasana and anand balasana. End with slow abdominal breathing to cool down.

Tips and common mistakes

Keep your lower back pressed toward the floor during leg raises to protect it.

Breathe out on the effort and never hold your breath during twists.

Stop any move that causes sharp pain and rest if you feel dizzy.

Do the routine on an empty stomach or at least an hour after eating.

Questions

Do I need any equipment?

No. A mat or a non-slip floor is enough, and you can do the standing moves barefoot.

How often should I do this workout?

Three to five sessions a week is a sensible start. Add rest days and build up slowly if you are new to exercise.

Will this alone flatten my belly?

Core work strengthens and tones the abs, but belly fat loss also depends on diet, sleep and overall activity. Treat this as one part of a healthy routine.
