What you need
Steps
Start with clean, moisturised skin. Tap a little eye cream under each eye and let it sink in for a minute so the corrector does not sit on dry patches.
Pick a corrector based on your circle colour. Blue or purple circles need peach or salmon, while very deep brown circles need a stronger orange.
Tap a thin layer of corrector only on the darkest part of the circle, not across the whole under eye. Use your ring finger or a small brush and press it in.
Let the corrector set for about 30 seconds before going in with concealer. This stops the two products mixing and sliding around.
Dot concealer in a small V shape at the inner corner and under the darkest area. Keep it below the lash line rather than pulling it right up into the lashes.
Press the concealer in with a damp sponge using small tapping motions. Do not sweep or drag, which lifts the corrector underneath.
Blend the edges only, leaving the centre of the coverage untouched. If you can still see darkness, add one more thin dot rather than a thick layer.
Set the area straight away with a light dusting of loose powder. Press it on with a puff or small brush instead of brushing it across the skin.
For extra brightness, add a tiny amount of brightening powder under the inner corner. Keep it light so the area does not look dry or cakey.
Tips and common mistakes
Thin layers beat one thick layer every time, because heavy product creases and looks gray faster.
Match the corrector to your circle colour, not to your foundation shade, or the correction will not work.
Skip setting powder only if your skin is very dry, and use the smallest amount if you have fine lines.
Warm cream corrector on the back of your hand first so it spreads evenly instead of patchily.
Questions
Why does my concealer turn gray under my eyes?
Usually because the concealer is too light or too cool for the darkness underneath, so it looks ashy. A peach or orange corrector underneath neutralises the blue and purple tones first.
Do I need a color corrector if my dark circles are mild?
Not always. If your circles are faint, a single layer of concealer that matches your skin tone may be enough, and the corrector step can be skipped.
Can I use this method if I have fine lines under my eyes?
Yes, but keep both layers thin and use very little powder. Press the powder in with a puff rather than brushing, which settles less product into the lines.
