Steps
Open the Settings app on your iPhone home screen. It is the grey gear icon, usually on the first page or in the App Library.
Scroll down the settings list and tap Safari. On some layouts it sits under the Apps section near the bottom.
Scroll to the bottom of the Safari settings page and tap Clear History and Website Data.
Pick a time range in the sheet that appears: Last hour, Today, Today and yesterday, or All history. Choose All history for a full wipe.
Tap Clear History at the bottom of the sheet to confirm. The list of visited sites is deleted straight away.
Leave Close All Tabs switched on if you also want every open Safari tab shut. Turn it off to keep your tabs open.
To remove just one site instead, open Safari, tap the tabs icon, switch to the History tab, then swipe left on an entry and tap Delete.
To avoid saving history at all, open a Private tab in Safari by tapping the tabs icon and choosing Private, then browse there.
Tips and common mistakes
Clearing history also deletes website data such as cookies, so some sites will sign you out and ask you to log in again.
Your bookmarks, Reading List and saved passwords stay untouched by this, so you will not lose saved pages.
If you use iCloud with Safari turned on, clearing history on one device also clears it on your other Apple devices.
Cleared history cannot be recovered, so export or bookmark any page you still need before you confirm.
Questions
Does clearing Safari history delete my bookmarks?
No. Bookmarks, favorites and your Reading List are stored separately and stay in place after you clear history.
Will this clear history on my iPad and Mac too?
It can. If Safari is enabled in iCloud on those devices, the history list syncs, so clearing it on your iPhone removes it everywhere.
Can I get the deleted history back?
No. Once you confirm, the history and website data are gone, and there is no restore option in Safari.
