Steps

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone home screen. On iOS 18 or later, scroll down the list and tap Apps.

  2. Tap Safari in the Apps list. On iOS 17 or earlier, Safari appears directly in the main Settings list, so tap it there instead.

  3. Scroll to the bottom of the Safari settings and tap Clear History and Website Data.

  4. Choose a timeframe in the prompt: last hour, today, today and yesterday, or all history. Pick all history to wipe everything.

  5. Tap Clear History to confirm. Safari closes and the selected history, cookies and cached data are removed.

  6. To delete just one site, open Safari and tap the book icon at the bottom of the screen, then choose the History tab.

  7. Swipe left on the entry you want gone and tap Delete. Repeat for any other single sites.

  8. Close Safari when you are done. Your other history entries stay exactly as they were.

Tips and common mistakes

Clearing history and website data also removes cookies and cache, so you may be signed out of websites and see slower first loads.

Bookmarks, Reading List items, saved passwords and AutoFill details are not deleted by this action.

Deleting one history entry does not remove that site's stored cookies. Use Settings, Apps, Safari, Advanced, Website Data for that.

If Safari syncing is on in iCloud, clearing history on one device also clears it on your other synced Apple devices.

Questions
