What you need
Steps
Download Ziidi Trader from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. Check the publisher name is Safaricom before you install it, so you do not get a fake copy.
Open the app and sign up using your Safaricom number. You will get a one-time password by SMS. Type it in to verify the number.
Fill in your personal details: full name, ID or passport number, date of birth and KRA PIN. These must match the details registered on your M-Pesa line.
Link your M-Pesa wallet as the funding source. The app sets up a CDSC account for you during sign-up, so you do not need to open one separately.
Go to the shares section and browse the list of companies you can buy. Tap a counter to see the current share price and any minimum order size.
Enter how many shares you want, or the amount in shillings you want to spend. The app shows the cost plus fees before you commit.
Review the order carefully, then confirm it with your M-Pesa PIN. The money leaves your wallet and the order goes to the market.
Open your portfolio to see the shares and the confirmation message. Keep the contract note the app sends you for your records.
Tips and common mistakes
Start with a small amount on one counter while you learn how orders and prices behave.
Share prices move up and down, so only invest money you can leave alone for a while.
Check the fees on each order, since they eat into small purchases.
If sign-up fails, make sure your ID name matches your M-Pesa registration exactly.
Questions
Do I need a CDSC account before I start?
No. Ziidi Trader creates one for you as part of the sign-up process, so you can buy shares once your details are verified.
How much money do I need to buy my first share?
It depends on the company's share price and the minimum order the app allows. Check the counter details in the app before you place an order.
Can I sell the shares later in the same app?
Yes. Open your portfolio, pick the shares you hold and choose the sell option to place a sell order.
