What you need
Steps
Finish your base first. Apply foundation and concealer as usual and let them settle for a minute, so the cream colours glide on top instead of grabbing patches.
Draw a thin line of cream bronzer along your cheekbone. Start near the top of your ear and stop about an inch before the corner of your mouth.
Add bronzer along your forehead at the hairline and down the edge of your jawline. These are the places that bring shape back to the face.
Blend the bronzer with a damp sponge or your fingertips. Tap and press rather than rubbing, and work in small circles until the edges fade into your skin.
Smile to find the round apples of your cheeks. Dot a little cream blush onto each one, using less than you think you need.
Blend the blush up and out toward your temple with your fingers or a small brush. Keep the colour soft at the edges so it melts into the bronzer.
Check both sides in the mirror in daylight. Add another thin layer of blush or bronzer where you want more colour, and blend again.
Lightly set the cream with a small amount of powder if you have oily skin or want it to last longer. A light touch keeps the glow.
Tips and common mistakes
Build in thin layers, because cream products are hard to remove once they are blended in.
Warm the bronzer on the back of your hand first so it applies smoothly instead of skipping.
Keep bronzer on the cheekbone, hairline and jawline, not across the whole cheek, or the face looks flat.
Cream blush goes on after bronzer so the colour stays visible on top of the shape.
Questions
Do I apply cream bronzer or cream blush first?
Bronzer first, then blush. The bronzer adds shape and the blush adds colour on top, so the cheek looks sculpted rather than just pink.
Can I use cream blush and bronzer over powder?
It blends best on foundation or bare skin. Over powder it can look patchy, so use a damp sponge and press it in gently.
What if I don't have a contour stick?
A cream bronzer in a stick, pot or tube works the same way. Pick a shade one or two tones deeper than your skin with a warm, not orange, tone.
